More info than you’d probably ever want to know…

I live in Tampa, Florida. Professionally, I wrote a monthly column for New Tampa Style Magazine, then began penning several mystery/suspense stories. My first novel, The Designated Survivor, was released in July 2013, and Prey of Desire followed in February 2014. The Cypress Trap was published in August 2015. All are available on Amazon in paperback and Kindle editions.

My Texas Roots

Coming from a large family with five brothers, I grew up in Grapevine — a small Texas town just outside of Dallas. In addition to bass fishing and boot stomping, I raised a male African lion named Hakeem, who had the run of a sprawling ranch. Hakeem loved Hakeemplaying chase and getting his belly rubbed. When he grew up, and became overly protective, he was moved to a large cat sanctuary in Boyd, Texas and I spent the night with the large cat at the local humane society during the transit. Hakeem passed away in 1998.

Moving to Tampa

I moved to Tampa in 1999, and began working for a small, family-owned home builder,  where I wrote a blog about sales, construction and lean practices. In 2013, I discussed lean home building on Andrew Duncan’s morning show on 970 WFLA and accepted the Pinnacle Builder Award on behalf of the builder. I was active in the local Tampa Bay Builder’s Association and was elected to the Board of the Tampa Bay Sales & Marketing Council. Since, then I have been focusing on my writing career.

Murder, He Wrote

Radio

I have been reading mystery novels as far back as grade school, where the adventures of Encyclopedia Brown first inspired me to not only read and write, but to problem solve. My grandmother, who was a retired English teacher, read everything I wrote as a kid, and was my first fan and first critic. Her influence lives on through my words.

I delved into writing mysteries and thrillers in 2012, and published my first book, The Designated Survivor the following year. I am a member of Mystery Writer’s of America, Florida Heritage of Writers and the Tampa Writer’s Alliance. I write daily, and often have three novels in the pipeline and bounce from one to the next then back again.

usf 03I originally wrote Prey of Desire when I was in college. In 2012, I dusted off the old manuscript and began an edit/rewrite. Kimberly, the heroine, was based on the neighbor who lived in the apartment across from me. She had a doberman pincer named Apollo. Mallory was based on a girl in several of my college classes. She would slam on her breaks in front of rich Mercedes Benz and Lexus drivers, and made a pretty decent living from their insurance payouts.  Those were the days.

Today, I read everything written by Mary Higgins Clark, Randy Wayne White, fellow Floridian Steve Alten and Andrew Gross, to name a few. My third novel, The Cypress Trap, was heavily inspired by my favorite novel of all time, Intensity by Dean Koontz.

I’m currently working on a new thriller to be released in 2016.
